EU-India Digital ID Interoperability Workshop

The EU–India Digital Policy Dialogue convened experts in Brussels for a closed-door workshop examining a central question for cross-border digital cooperation: how could the European Digital Identity Wallet and India’s digital identity ecosystem—including Aadhaar and DigiLocker—interoperate in practice?

Held as part of the EU–India Digital ID Interoperability Feasibility Study, the workshop explored the issue across regulatory, technical and commercial dimensions. Discussions addressed the respective legal frameworks, wallet architectures, trust models, technical specifications and the practical requirements for accepting credentials across jurisdictions. Contributions from experts representing the OpenID Foundation, SIROS, the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation and IN Groupe will help inform the study’s findings and recommendations. The workshop marked the first in-person session in a wider series of exchanges on EU–India digital identity interoperability.
