Building the EU–India Semiconductor Corridor: From Policy to Investment

The global semiconductor supply chain disruptions between 2021 and 2023 highlighted the strategic and commercial risks of concentrated manufacturing dependencies. In response, both India and the European Union have launched ambitious policy frameworks to strengthen resilience and expand their roles in the global semiconductor ecosystem, and both are now moving into implementation.

India’s semiconductor incentive schemes are already translating into concrete investments. Tata Electronics is establishing a fabrication facility in partnership with PSMC, while CG Power and Renesas are developing an OSAT plant, and Kaynes Semicon is building manufacturing capacity in Sanand. Driven by the India Semiconductor Mission, these developments are positioning India as an emerging hub across multiple segments of the value chain. Europe’s strengths lie in complementary areas. Companies such as ASML play a critical role in advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment, while firms like NXP, Infineon, and STMicroelectronics are global leaders in automotive, industrial, and IoT chips.

Europe’s research ecosystem, including institutions such as imec and Fraunhofer, contributes to the foundational technologies underpinning next-generation semiconductor innovation. As India advances from packaging towards design and, over time, more advanced manufacturing, and as Europe seeks to diversify and strengthen trusted supply chains under the EU Chips Act, there is significant potential for deeper collaboration. Through the EU–India Trade and Technology Council, both sides are already working to identify complementarities and expand cooperation across the semiconductor value chain.

This session in partnership with the Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) will explore how these complementarities can translate into concrete investment, supply chain partnerships, and joint research and innovation initiatives – strengthening the EU–India semiconductor corridor.
