Overview
The EU-India Digital Policy Dialogue is a multi-stakeholder initiative committed to advancing digital economy and policy cooperation under the EU-India Trade and Technology Council and becoming a platform to include the voices of all stakeholders.Launched in 2023, the initiative is jointly funded by the European Commission and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (BMDS) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), through a dedicated secretariat based in New Delhi, India. This initiative engages key stakeholders, including India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), EU Member States and the EU Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT).

Objectives
EU-India Digital Policy Dialogue
- Support the EU-India Trade and Technology Council (TTC) Working Group 1 and advance shared digital priorities under the Team Europe approach.
- Nurture a shared understanding of regulatory frameworks across priority digital domains to bring the respective digital economies closer and foster good governance.
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder collaboration, bringing together government bodies, industry, academia, and think tanks to exchange insights, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
- Promote a human-centric and climate-aware digital transformation, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement across key areas, such as digital governance, emerging technologies, and infrastructure.
- Promote long-term partnerships that strengthen digital cooperation between the EU and India, guided by shared values and mutual priorities.
More about the EU-India Trade and Technology Council (Working Group 1)
The EU-India Digital Policy Dialogue and its Secretariat directly support Working Group 1 of the EU-India Trade and Technology Council (TTC) which focuses on strategic technologies, digital governance and digital connectivity. Through this collaboration, it facilitates policy cooperation across six priority areas: Artificial Intelligence, digital skills, Digital Public Infrastructure, telecom and IT standardisation, high-performance computing and quantum computing, and microelectronics and supply chain resilience.
